I have loved Wales since I was a child and when I moved here a ten years ago following a 30 year career teaching art in the North West of England, I have had the time to pursue my ambition to paint.
I have exhibited in numerous shows, and have opened my studio as a venue as part of the Helfa Gelf art trail and more latterly as a member of the Clwydian Creatives, CCAT.
I always have a range of pieces available for purchase and I am also happy to work with clients on ideas for commissions. See my CONTACT page for details.
My ‘love affair’ with the landscapes of Wales continues and I am never happier than when I am out and about walking in the hills that surround the lovely village of Nercwys. Wales is, but not exclusively the subject that most inspires me to produce my paintings and over the past couple of years I have been interested in producing work that reflects my interest in the elements that are found in nature, these being Water, Fire, Air and Earth. Sometimes looking at the vastness of my subject whilst at other times zooming into a scene to observe nature in close up almost a microscopic way.
Some pieces of my work reflect my concern for the changes in the climate and thus I have produced a number of paintings on the theme of 'AFTERMATH' which is concerned with the devastating effects of the wildfires that have occurred on the heather clad hills and moors of North Wales. I currently keep an eye on the recovery of this area and have produced a series of works in oils and water based media to capture my response to the destruction and the regeneration of the flora and fauna affected.
During the COVID 19 'lock down' I was absorbed in producing paintings of remembered places. Locations that sprung to mind from my past that gave me a sense of well being and happiness during this troubling time.
The theme came under the title of Hope and the Creative Response. As we emerged from the disorientating 'lock down' period, I completed a series of four small watercolour paintings titled Gardens of Recovery (below), first shown in a group exhibition at
Oriel Ty Meirion and now residing in the home of one my lovely supporters. These small paintings have become a template for my more analytical and contemplative art works.
My work continues to move forward however and I have started to work once again successfully in oils on larger scaled pieces which I have found very satisfying. (see image above)
